Moonshine
Tennessee, 1862
Also known as “Rifle Knock Knee” and “Rock Me To Sleep Mother”, Moonshine had many names during the Civil War. Simple drunkenness was the most common form of bad conduct encountered in either army. It is unclear whether it was a Yank or a Reb who first made the momentous discovery, but very early in the Civil War the troops realized that with the touchhole plugged the barrel of a musket could hold nearly a pint of whiskey.
