This is a planned build in 1/35 scale with the vehicle and accessories from Dragon, Aber, Eduard, and Verlinden. The figures are from Dragon, Legend, Jaguar, Andrea, Nemrod, Doug’s Original, and Mk 35. The finished diorama will be mounted on a foam and Canary wood base.
Elephant Graveyard
Kursk, 1943
The largest tank battle in human history started in July, 1943 on the plains of Kursk, with over 8,000 Soviet and German Tanks and Assault Guns fought fighting continuously for a month. The largest vehicle to participate in the battle was the German Ferdinand (Elephant) Tank Destroyer. This immense vehicle weighed 70 tons and had up to eight inches of armor plate. Of the 89 vehicles that took part in the battle, 39 were lost.
