Frauenhauser
Germany, 1945
Since the 13th century, several German cities operated brothels known as Frauenhäuser ("women's houses"). During WW2, the Nazi’s installed a centralized system of city brothels, military brothels and brothels for forced laborers. It is estimated that a minimum of 34,140 women from occupied states were forced to work as prostitutes in the Third Reich. In 1942 alone, there were over 500 such brothels for German soldiers all over Europe. Prostitution is still legal in Germany today.
